So today I went to see Hugo.

May I just say, it was a dang good movie!

But before I get to the movie...

Oh my gosh.

Did you start crying?

This was one of the previews before Hugo, and I had no idea that they were re-releasing it!

I actually started tearing up and almost started sobbing.

During the preview.

I am so excited!! I will be there opening day, watching it, crying my eyes out.

Titanic = one of the best movies in the history of movies.

So. Hugo.

I think it was almost more fun going to see this movie without a clue as to what it is about. I was expecting something quite different.

Cinematically speaking, I'll say a few things.

The acting was very good. Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lee, and Jude Law were all a nice choice. They're all amazing actors. Chloe Moretz was also quite good. Asa Butterfield, who played Hugo? Very talented. I had known him from other movies, but just ignored thinking about it. Looked them up.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. He was in that tear-jerker? Quite so.

And Merlin. You probably have no what that show is - only us die-hard fans of British sci-fi/fantasy would know.

So the acting was wonderful.

The story line was very interesting. I went into the theater expecting an adventure, possibly with some sci-fi or fantastical stuff thrown in.

I left the theater having seen a beautiful mystery and drama.

I left satisfied and happy. (And you can't beat that!)

And not being a fan of 3-D films, I was quite impressed with this one. I could actually stand it and see what was happening.

All in all, this movie was moving, funny, interesting, and a bit scary or creepy at times. I discovered at the end that Johnny Depp had produced it - and I could see a bit of him in some aspects.

So if you haven't already seen Hugo (even though it came out over a month ago), I highly recommend it.

Just do it.

Collections: Movies

   I feel compelled to share some of my favorite movies with you all. You've probably seen most of them, but that's not gonna stop me! Most of these movies will have an actor or two in common - I tend to get stuck on certain actors and I don't often let go...

• Walk the Line

          This one's first because I just watched it :P I forgot                 how awesome a movie it is! It's honest - and I like honest movies.

        Okay, I have too many good stories from watching this movie. This movie STILL creeps me out, even though I've seen it a billion times. And may I just say here, that every M. Night Shyamalan film ever made goes on my list. Because he is awesome.

• The Prestige

          Not only is this one of the cleverest movies ever made, but it has double eye candy (is that even legal?)! Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Excuse me as I go faint.

• The Dark Knight

          Of course Batman Begins was equally awesome, but The Dark Knight surpassed its predecessor in epicness. I have a thing for the dark movies. The ones that portray the darkness lying in every human's heart. The Joker is probably my favorite villain ever created (he's the only Mii I use on my Wii :). And I was glad that someone finally put some corruption in the hero. Something terrible finally happened, and it showed that everyone can fall.

• Edward Scissorhands

          I already ranted on about my love for this film in a previous post, so I'll save you some pain. But I love this movie. It's not happy. It's not even completely depressing. It's just beautiful. And that's all I have to say on the matter.

• Corpse Bride

          Don't be completely weirded out by this choice. I'm not sure why I like this movie so much. But I do.

• Titanic

          This is on my "Movies that make me cry" list. Because I ball my eyes out - every time.

• Phantom of the Opera

          I just realized that I haven't seem this movie in a really long time! This also made me cry when I first saw it. The music is beautifully eerie.

• Memento

          Crazy, mind-boggling movie. It took me 5 viewings to really understand it... I least, I think I understand it...

• Breakfast At Tiffany's

          I've said it many times, but I'll say it again - I Love This Movie.

• Rebel Without a Cause

          This is an awesome movie. Not a huge point to it, but it's awesome just the same.

What about Disney movies? The true classics and the new ones? Hmmm....

• The Aristocats

          I've no idea why I love this movie. I've watched it since I was 2, and I love it... I don't even like cats...

• The Jungle Book

          The movie I would watch at my grandparent's house every time I slept over. It's the jam to my peanut butter.

• Beauty and the Beast

          In honor and it's re-....opening. Best Disney princess movie ever. Also one of the best love stories of all time.

• Toy Story (& 3)

          Toy Story came out the year I was born. I used to act out scenes from it all the time. I had Woody, Buzz, Rex, and RC (wasn't I cool?). I was always so disappointed that my Woody doll's hat never came off... bummer.

Oh, and the third movie made me cry.

• Up

          I occasionally get a little teary-eyed in certain parts. My favorite part is when Kevin mimics Carl - cracks me up every time.

   Well, I've run out of stuff. I have tons more, but I just can't remember them :P

Squeaky Clean

Reading: East of Eden by John Steinbeck

Listening to: Maroon 5 (I feel totally weird saying that... don't judge me. I got moves like Jagger ;)

   The other day I had this weird impulse to read some literature (I think it had to do with the smell of old books surrounding me. Sometimes I wonder if people ever spike books...). To the bookshelf I went and after browsing for a while I discovered Of Mice and Men. I've always wanted to read it, just to know what it's about, so I said what the hay and read it in two hours (which is a bit embarrassing since it's only 100 pages long.).

    So it's a depressing book. But not totally as depressing as what I thought. It's depressing for the obvious reason, of course, there's something much deeper there that made me think. I almost felt like it was a story that could've happened any day, every day. There didn't seem to be any huge moral point or really any point at all. It was just a story about two guys trying to make their way during the Depression. They could have been any men you saw walking down the street. All they wanted was a better life - and they almost got it.

    Anyway, I discovered while reading the little prelude on John Steinbeck that he also wrote East of Eden. I've seen the movie (James Dean. I HAD to, obviously.) and thought it was pretty good (mostly because of James Dean), so I ran to the library to borrow it.

    I was unaware that East of Eden by John Steinbeck was 601 pages long. And not small juvenile fiction pages. So I've been attempting to read 50 pages a day. It's not actually been that difficult because the story's very interesting - but it's not what I expected.

    The book is divided into several parts and the movie apparently omitted at the least the first part so this has been like reading a totally different book - which is awesome.

    It's a bit dark, in some aspects, but it totally reveals the author, and that's something I've never so explicitly observed in a book.

    So I'll let y'all know how it is when I finish :)

   I've found something. A TV show. A slightly old TV show. A TV show that really shouldn't be old, but is, which makes me feel old. 

   One Tree Hill.

   OK, so it's still airing. But I'm talking old school, 2003 One Tree Hill. Yea. I never watched these shows because I was... 8 when the show started. But I think just growing up in that era, you find yourself loving the shows of that time (i.e., the early 2000's). So I randomly started watching is on Netflix, fell in love with Chad Michael Murray, and... I'm addicted. Just like that. My parents should be happy I don't dabble in anything worse than TV shows with my addictive personality... then again, maybe TV shows are worse...

   Naahhh!!!

   I also had the wonderful experience of gluing styrofoam peanuts to my eyebrows*, being on TV, and embarrassing my sister's best by dancing to "Forever" in the middle of the street - and singing along.
