In our town (and probably most other towns, I guess) we have a parade every Memorial Day. So on that day of the year, we all get up in the morning, claim our seats next to the Presbyterian church, and enjoy watching children and adults march, ride, run, and walk through our town. Usually, either me or one of my siblings is in the parade because the Little League and tee-ball baseball and softball teams get to ride through the parade. Last year was my first year not being in the parade since I was five, but my brother was in it. This year, he didn't play baseball, so it was really weird not having any of us in the parade. But it was fun. I made out really well. I got three Dumdums, four Tootsie rolls, AND a jawbreaker! (Don't be jealous. Not everyone can be as rewarded as me.) So you can imagine how thrilled I was. After the parade, went to the baseball field to get our BBQ chicken. The fire company in town makes a few thousand chicken BBQ meals during Memorial Day, and they have the BEST food. And it was even better this year because none of us were in the parade so we got our chicken, ate and left, unlike the usual several hours in scorching heat, waiting for the players to get their baseball or softball for selling so many chicken BBQ tickets. So, yea, that was a plus.
These were dudes playing bagpipes, in kilts. I have deep respect for any man who wears a skirt.
A lady from the Red Hat Society
I thought it was a creative way of decorating the truck, and I loved how they remembered the veterans.
A crazy clown lady. She said who she was, but she sounded like she was on something, so I didn't really get too much of it.
Coolest kid ever. Some trivia for ya: the guy to the right is the husband of my junior high softball coach. Yup.
Amen. Keep our troops in your prayers.
That's my bus driver for softball. His name is Mike. He's the awesomest bus driver ever.
After the parade, we came home and we did the slip and slide again! I love that thing... Sadly, my legs were getting sore from going down it, so I stopped after a little while. There was an awesome mud lake at the bottom of it though.Though I did get sun burnt, I had a very wonderful Memorial Day. But lets not get too caught up in the festivities. Remember the reason for this day. Don't forget those who aren't able to be at home with family today, or those who never will. Keep those men and women and their families in your prayers.
Also, in case you didn't know, I made a new blog for my study through the Secret Keeper Devos. So if you're interested in what I have to say on that, please go to my other blog!
Now, since I was on the topic of parades, I thought I'd share with y'all some of my favorite things about parades.
Candy
It's always refreshing to see that children and adults alike are all still willing to illegally chuck candy at your head during parades. I don't know what we'd do without these people. And their candy.
People you know
While watching the parade, I always have those moments where I'm like "Oh hey! There's that girl I met in preschool who liked ponies like me, but she only liked to play in the sand box, and I was more of a monkey bars girl, but if I tried to play with her, she'd try and hog all the sand, so then I would ignore her, but then the next day we'd see each other and start talking about ponies again. Did she gain some weight?" Yea, we all have moments like that.
Crazy people
For example, that clown lady I previously mentioned. Weird...
Well, I'm exhausted, and still have two blogs to post on, so night all!
Cheers ♥
