Boy oh boy is it hot out! It was just about 90 today!! It seems like it was spring, then suddenly, it goes directly to mid-July weather. No slow transition or anything, just
BAM!!!
Summer.
So yesterday I got some nasty sun burn. So I advise all my readers to be a bit more mindful than me while out in the sun. Sun is hot. Sun burn skin. Burnt skin = owy. So I've been putting blue goop on my shoulders every ten minutes to alleviate the pain. it's not too bad, but I really don't like sun burn. But nothing will ever be as bad as two years ago in Jessup... I couldn't sleep that night, and the next day, just the sun shining on my shoulders burned. It was probably equivalent to skinning me, putting my skin on a George Foreman, and then returning the skin to my body.
But enough about physical pain.
When going to practice today, we went the back way. And going that way, we pass a cute little house. Actually it's sort of ugly. It's a mint green and brown. Like mint chocolate chip ice cream. But mint chocolate chip ice cream doesn't look so good as a house. But anyway, a cute little old couple live there. And whenever I pass by I always see them sitting outside, one in a swing, the other on a chair. And they're just sitting there, not really doing anything. Maybe talking to each other, maybe reading a book or the newspaper.
But I think it's the most adorable thing!
That seems like the definition of romance. Live young together, live old together. I hope when I'm that old, I'll have the same experience. I don't know the story of their life, but I like to imagine what it is. And I like to imagine it as a very romantic, perhaps slightly tragic life, full of stories from their childhood and the war. I'd love to just sit down with a glass of lemonade and listen to endless their endless talks on everything from life in the '40's, to baking cookies for the president, to when they were almost separated forever. Call me a romantic, but I love thinking up beautiful love stories, and I can only do so with a lovely old couple. On occasion, my youth group will visit a local care home, and we'll talk with the residents. Some people find old people boring and crazy, but I think they're the most amazing people ever! I hope I'm half as interesting as some of the people I've met. Some of them have such beautiful and tragic life stories, full of romance, adventure, maybe some comedy thrown in there as well. One of my favorite people to visit was "Uncle Will". He was almost like a fortune cookie, full of wise words for life. He was really funny too. Sadly, I found out he passed away last summer. He was such a sweet old man.
I can remember visiting a nursing home with my grandma when I was little. We'd visit a bunch of people, most of whom we didn't know, and we'd talk and sing songs. One lady, my grandma witnessed being saved. She couldn't talk, and really at the time, I didn't know she was all there. But my grandma treated her like any other person. We'd sing to her, and she loved it, I'm sure.
But enough of my sappiness. I get carried away ;]
Tomorrow I'm going to the movies with my grandma to see POTC "On Stranger Tides"! And tomorrow evening I have CLEAR - and all the newbies are moving up! They'll get a nice welcome from us all ;]
So it's getting late. I'll bid you all adieu.
Cheers ♥
