Day three, week one. Today I finished reading Psalm 42 (verses 7-11). The verse highlighted was 7: "Deep calls to deep at the sound of Thy waterfalls; all Thy breakers and Thy waves have rolled over me." The devo starts off with the author reminiscing over a snorkeling trip, and then explains what a breaker is: It's where calm ocean starts to get crazy because it's hitting on object like a coral reef. So one side is crazy ninja ocean, the other side is a tranquil lullaby of waves. But when swimming there, she had to be careful, because she could easily become distracted with God's beautiful ocean wonders that she could find herself having to swim as hard as she could to get to safety!
Have you ever felt like this, emotionally or spiritually? Being completely amazed by God and then suddenly, everything goes downhill? Yeah. I think we all have those times. I know there are some days when I feel jsut completely overwhelmed by everything going on in life and there is nowhere to turn! Verse 7, when read in Hebrew, actually says "waterspouts" instead of "waterfalls." The difference? Waterspouts are tubes of clouds formed by electricity, trapped in fluid. Doesn't sound too nice does it? Sometimes we can get stuck in those waterspouts. We feel trapped, unable to move, stuck in craziness that never ends. But you know what? God wants us to come to Him. When we feel lost, tired, and wilted (and probably a little bit dizzy after riding in that waterspout!) He's there waiting with open arms, calling to us, yearning for us to run to Him with all that is left within our broken hearts. And He'll hold us, like a daddy with his child, never letting us go.
So next time you're caught in a waterspout, hurricane, or maybe (though I pray none of you are!) you're in the middle of the catastrophe created by these tornadoes that have been ripping through our country, call out to Jesus. Tell Him your problems, call on Him! And one more thing - praise Him! The last verse in Psalm 42 reads, "Hope in God, for I will yet praise Him!" No matter whether you're struggling with family problems, self-image, tornadoes, or waterspouts, hope in God, call on Him, praise Him, and He will be there, waiting for you to come home.
Cheers
