Pray You Through

Hey all! Hope your week is continuing on in awesomeness :] Mine has been pretty awesome. Yesterday I had a game (we won 5-0 :) and then went to CLEAR (our youth group). It was our Care & Share week, meaning we do something like "community service". Our church was in desperate need of fixing-uping so we all weeded, mowed, clipped, swept, chipped, painted, and such. I helped clean out the nursery. And then we got pizza! (which was extremely yummy, though it would've been better if we hadn't waited a half hour to eat it... 'twas a bit cold) Then today, I had my FINAL chemistry class *squeal!*, Spanish class (which was fun because it was a review day, so we played a bunch of fun games!), and softball practice, which was crazy since it was deathly hot out. And I had to catch for a half hour. Then I came home and decided to take advantage of this lovely weather, so Livia, Isaiah, Chloe, and I all went out, hooked the sprinkler hose up and played with Nerf guns while running through the sprinkler. It was fun ;]
Now, to get on with my discussion on modesty. I read Psalm 34 this morning. Verse 9 says, "Fear the lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing!" The devotional started off describing a picture published in National Geographic. The author tells how the face of a man scares for. He's sitting in the background, looking rather bored, his chin resting on his hand, and probably ready to doze off. The problem? He's at a lingerie show! There are beautiful women walking past him wearing practically nothing and he not even slightly interested in anything going on! And why is this a problem? It's visual proof that men are becoming desensitized to a woman's power to be alluring. We're selling the female body at such a crazy rate that pretty soon, nothing will excite a guy! We've become comfortable with cheaply selling our bodies trying to find fake power.
The rest of the devo goes on about a study done on how sex sells products. Research shows that if, for example, you were trying to sell Kleenex by maybe having some alluring women blowing her nose (this is just an example, bear with me), instead of boosting the sales for Kleenex (the brand), it would boost the sale of tissues (the product). The same thing is happening when we try to sell our bodies. When we try to act, talk, dress sexier, instead of getting a guy more interested in us, you personally, he's really just becoming more interested in the sexual appeal of women in general! The author, Dannah, continues to tell how she believes women today try to dress immodestly because they don't believe they'll get a guy if they don't compete. They try to find a power they think is real, when in reality they're giving up the power of allure that God gave us!
So maybe, instead of fearing our inability to attract guy, maybe we should be fearing God (the whole purpose of the verse I quoted in the beginning! See how this all pulls together?) The Hebrew word for fear actually means to "submit". This is what we need to do, not give up our power to try a get a guy to glance at us. And God's Word promises that we will lack nothing if we fear Him!
I hope this encourages you all to be seeking God, not guys. I know I'm truly guilty of doing this, and it's really is hard to be enraptured in God when we're worrying about how guys see us. But we need to give up ourselves and submit to God, and He will bless us.
Real quick, I discovered this song today. I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite, and it's so beautiful! So I thought I'd share it with you all :]
Cheers.
