I watched Breakfast At Tiffany's today. Can I first say that this movie is just spectacular?! I love Audrey Hepburn. I adore Audrey Hepburn. She is and always will be my favorite actress. She has such class about her, and is so feminine, but can still keep that funny, girlish charm about her. She didn't have the curvy body desired by most actresses back then. Her childhood was hard. But she's just so.... amazing.
Anyway, back on to the movie... It's a bit complicated. It's not a simple "two loners fall in love the end"-type romance. There's so much more to it.
Besides the amazing story, highlights of this movie?
- George Peppard's eyes. GUSH
- George Peppard.
- One of the most romantic movie kisses to date.
- Many fantastic quotes:
Holly Golightly: I'll tell you one thing, Fred, darling... I'd marry you for your money in a minute. Would you marry me for my money?
Paul Varjak: In a minute.
Holly Golightly: I guess it's pretty lucky neither of us is rich, huh?
Paul Varjak: Yeah.
Holly Golightly: Thursday! It can't be! It's too gruesome!
Paul Varjak: What's so gruesome about Thursday?
Holly Golightly: Nothing, except I can never remember when it's coming up.
- Mr. Yunioshi (played by Mickey Rooney)... oh my...
I'll admit, first time I saw this movie, I wasn't hooked. I was younger... shorter attention span... etc... but man oh man. This is definitely one of my favorite movies.
So after feeling the need to binge on Classic movies of times past, I decided to watch Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Now that was a complicated movie. A bit like a soap opera with the whole season boiled down to 2 hours. With no change of scenery. I got slightly confused through it (this might have been because my concentration was split between spider solitaire...), but the ending was... I don't know. Awesome. I can't really think of how to describe it because it was a mixture of a bunch of things. This movie definitely got into some deep stuff. It was like 2 hours worth of Oprah. But better. And having never seen a Paul Newman movie, or really ever heard of him... man, am I glad I watched this. There is a reason he's known for his eyes. I mean... I've NEVER seen eyes more perfectly blue than his. Wow.
I mean, those things aren't even photo-shopped. One more... for good measure.
Excuse me while I try and remember how to breathe...
Okay. I'm good.
Of course I have a billion other obsessions related to the 50's and 60's.
- James Dean (yes I do have an obsession with him and there's nothing you could say to change my mind.)
- The Nutty Professor. Few times do you have the chance to see Jerry Lewis all suave and manly. Honestly, most people probably don't even know he has a suave and manly side...
- Charade. One of my favorite movies. Ever. Combines Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant, throws in some mystery, romance, and comedy; voila! Perfect movie!
- It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. I love this movie. Gotta love Mickey Rooney :p
I could go on all night. But I'll stop here. Check out some of these movies if you'd like. They're some of my favorites, and I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Cheers♥
I have NEVER seen Breakfast at Tiffany's, believe it or not. I think my sister has the DVD. I might need to borrow it this weekend!
