So (as I like to start off every post I've ever posted), the past few days have been nice. Yesterday was one of those weird days where I get a lot accomplished but still spend half the day sitting on my butt in front of the computer. I got dos loads of laundry done (I've been running on no socks for a week. It hasn't been fun), I picked up and vacuumed my room (also Maddy's room but, well, let's face it; it's not likely she's going to get a job as a housemaid anytime soon), went to the barn to practice hitting (as in softball hitting. I've noticed most bloggers aren't so... sports savvy, yea?) and got a tiny bit of school done (I guess I should probably do more of that stuff, huh?). But to balance everything out, I spent more hours then I'm willing to admit in front of the computer talking to a friend, playing Rock Face with Facebook, and watching movies. Yes, I am a bit of lazy daisy.
This weekend I'm going down near Philadelphia (although not actually in Philadelphia) to play in a softball tournament for a friend's team. They needed a catcher, and I was honored to be their pick! I'm actually excited about this because this is an 18 & under team (I play for a 16u team), and this tournament is a college showcase! There are going to be over 60 teams there and plenty of college scouts checking players out, so this is a pretty big deal! I mean, at a decent sized tournament, you might have 20 teams, if that. I played in several tournaments over the summer with only 6 teams in them, so I'm stoked!
On a completely random note, our male guinea tried to attack me when I was at the barn yesterday. Of course I'm so intimidating, he didn't get very close. I'm a beast.
Today was an absolutely lovely day! It was the first time the sun's come out in quite a while and it looked so beautiful and autumn-ish out, it made everything so much better! I had a cup of hot chocolate for breakfast, worked on school, actually learned something in Government (only took till lesson 26), and completed reading the third module of Physics! I went to the chiropractor, which was heaven, stopped at Wal-Mart (I tell ya, going there now is like a field trip! So much to see, so little time!), I discovered that I had only been down one aisle in the beauty section. Upon seeing the aisle next to it I exclaimed to my sister, "Whoa! Maddy, there's a whole other aisle with makeup! Who knew!" I bought some razors with exotically scented handles (because scented razors are cool), and went home to make some pumpkin spice Rice Krispie treats! All this entailed was your regular Rice Krispie treat recipe, but you use the fall-themed pumpkin spice marshmallows instead of the normal ones! And they were delicious, if I do say so myself. I happened to forget how difficult the task of making these tasty treats are. I turned on some tunes, sang my heart out, and had to have Maddy hold down the pot as I attempted to scoop Rice Krispie goodness out and into a pan. You gotta handle those things fast, man. They start cooling down it's like trying to take dry cement out of a bowl with a blade of grass. Not cool.
Tonight was CLEAR and I had a leadership meeting, so we discussed all sorts of awesome plans for the Christmas program and our summer missions trip (which is a long ways off, but we've learned there is a huge need to plan it way in advance). I am so stoked about this summer! It's going to be awesome! After this my youth leader, Mr. J, spoke to us all about evangelizing, and as always his story included McDonald's. He had such amazing stories of God using him to share the Gospel with others and it was extremely encouraging and yet a bit convicting at the same time. But I feel God really opened my heart tonight and I grabbed hold of a lot more than what I usually do when we discuss evangelism. Mr. J spent so much time talking that we didn't get to our video session, but that was fine with me. Mr. J has so much to share, it's impossible to be bored listening to him. Plus I got to hear some comments from the newbies, who I haven't gotten to know too well. They have a lot more knowledge than what I give them credit for. After writing a full page of notes, we ended and ate some yummy stuff (PUMPKIN donut holes?! HECK yes!). My friend Carly and I went off to talk. We decided it was time to take initiative and socialize with the newbies. And this is where my story gets interesting. Well, this may be a "Ya had to be there" moment, but I'll try to help you grasp it.
I had to go to the bathroom before we went out to face the little 7th-graders standing outside. So I go into the one bathroom, she goes into the other right next to me. Well, I happened to remember something about the bathroom (there used to be a vent in there that went outside. And when we were little, sometimes us young kids would stand outside and weird people out by talking into it. Yea. We were that awesome). So I was just sort of standing there thinking about it, talking to Carly about it, and as I go to sit down on the toilet, I COMPLETELY miss. For some odd reason, the toilet wasn't where I thought it was and I sat down on air. Thankfully I caught myself on the sink before I completely fell over. And all Carly heard was "AAAHHH!!!!", *BAM!*, *hysterical laughter*, "I missed!" I tried to tell her what happened, but I was laughing so hard, I couldn't breathe or get enough words out to explain what happened. After I exited, she was still in the bathroom and all I could do was laugh like a maniac. Eventually I was able to communicate what happened and then Carly was in the bathroom laughing hysterically and neither one of us could stop! Then my friend Casey comes walking in and all she sees is me wiping my eyes, unable to tell whether I'm crying or laughing, and then I just starting cracking up again, bent over, unable to breathe. Eventually I got out "I missed!" and that came across the wrong way, so I explained further. Then Carly comes out and it's just the three of us. Laughing hysterically.
Sorry for how long that was, but I'm still laughing just writing about it and I had to get it out!
And then of course we went outside to socialize with the newbies. At first, this didn't work quite as well as planned. Which brings me to another point.
^(That's not the point.)^
I want you all to realize, right now that everyone has it backwards. Homeschoolers are NOT, in fact, the unsocial ones. It IS, in fact, the public schoolers who don't know how to socialize! We homeschoolers, when in any public setting, must go out of our way to find someone to talk to. We welcome those situations and are, in fact, very good at starting up conversations and making new friends BECAUSE we do not see the same people all the time and must find new people to talk to. PUBLIC SCHOOLERS, on the other hand, tend to stay in their little groups of friends, and they dislike leaving their little group of friends. They don't feel the need to socialize with others because they already have their own group and have no need to talk to anyone else.*
Now that THAT'S cleared up, after several trialing minutes, we were able to get a game of Never Have I Ever going and got to learn some things about the newbies.
And that's that. I'm now home, writing up an extremely long post that few people, if any are likely to read, but that okay. Because I had an interesting day full of more laughter than the past month of my life has contained.
Cheers♥
*I'm not trying to diss you public schoolers. Y'all are awesome, and I love ya, but, let's face it - homeschoolers are cooler.
