We've Already Won

Today I took a trip to the city.
Now you must understand that when I say "city", I don't mean some big, fantabulous NYC copycat. No, I mean a place that actually has both a Starbucks and a Sonic. See I live on the outskirts of a tiny town. And the nearest "city" is about 40 minutes from my house. Therefore, it's always a treat to go out to the mall, and go into stores we rarely visit, and such.

     So let me continue.
Today I took a trip to the city. This trip was taken, in part, due to the need to buy party supplies for my sister's surprise birthday party. Of course she was brought along which makes these tasks a bit difficult. Nevertheless, we someone managed a distraction of sorts.
We entered Party City (which I think I've only ever been in maybe once) and looked around at the different... well, party stuff. After a few minutes it was, of course, determined that I was to be the distractee, so I escorted my sister into the store next door - Petco.

You must also understand that I LOVE pet stores. I absolutely ADORE them. As a child (and maybe even now) if I had been given a choice to go to McDonald's or a pet store, I would've chosen the pet store (unless it was lunch time, obviously).
So I bring my sister into Petco. First things we see? Guinea pigs. I'm not really a huge fan of guinea pigs. They're really just big and fat hamsters. And I'm not a huge fan of fat hamsters either. So after a quick glance, we moved on - to the ferrets. I am determined when I get older to get my own pet ferret. I think they are the most adorable creatures of furriness. Not to mention almost all of them were sleeping. And if you haven't ever seen a sleeping ferret, you are missing out on a picture cuter than a baby gnawing on his foot. Of course I had to be dragged away by some store employees who kept telling me that my constant cooing, squeals of delight, and banging of the sides of the containers were causing some animals to have indigestion. So after a few quick looks at other rodents and furry creatures, we moved on.

Birds are somethings I'm obsessed with. I have an obsession with anything owl- or penguin-related, but really I just love birds in general. And as much as I would ADORE to have a pet bird, I don't think I'd be able to get over the sadness I'd feel in having to keep it caged and unable to fly. There was one particularly cute bird that was making his way towards me. I fell in love with him... but my heart was soon broken as I had to keep moving.

Reptiles. Amphibians. Oh yes. I don't just love all things cute and fluffy. I also love all things cute and scaly, shelled, bug-eyed, bug-eating, tail-whipping, and color-changing. I have to say that looking at all those creatures is my favorite part of the pet store. There were some freaking awesome iguanas that I decided I must have before I die. And of course some very loveable tortoises, geckos that clung to the glass like stickers, snakes with the cutest little faces (I do believe that I'm the only one thinks that snakes have the sweetest looking faces in the world), frogs that were so glossy, they almost looked fake, and in one solitary container.
     A tarantula!!
As a kid, I always hated spiders. Not quite "scream, yell, and murder" scared, but even that I'd jump and may even squeak a bit at the sight of one. I think as I've grown older, my fear has worsened. At the sight of that hairy, creepy thing (who's face was, thank heavens, not facing me), I gave a little jump and shriek, and a shiver slithered it's way down my spine. I couldn't even go near it. I hopped right along to the next specimen, and couldn't even get a good look at the cute froggys next to it because I was so freaked out.
So now you know something little-known about me - I HATE spiders.
Thank goodness next door there was a tank with a happy little swimming turtle. And I read the little description about him - "Very social and will swim up to greet you."

HECK yes. Mr. Turtle looked at me for a second or two and then paddled his way towards the glass. His little foot wiggled up and down in a sort of turtle wave, and then he stuck his little head up against the glass and I saw the sweet smile on his cute reptile face. I think I fell in love with that little guy. Of course the crickets in a box next to us made gave some country background to the whole experience. As did my brother asking if the crickets were sold as pets. This was answered by my sarcasm asking why anyone would want a pet cricket, which was answered by my sister saying she'd by one to take with her on trips so it could cricket-sing her to sleep at night, which was answered by my silence.
I got to see a little cleaner shrimp (think Nemo - Jacque) which I had never seen before. It was actually really cute. Along with some other misadventures today, I had a fun-filled day.
Cheers♥
*Of COURSE I wasn't going to put up a picture of a spider! I would've had a panic attack and that would've been the end of Emily!
