Storms, Love, and Fritos

  Tomorrow is...
Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!
Yes, I do hate that song.
So I haven't really decided what this post is going to be about yet. Last night I was brimming full of some fantabulous ideas, but being me, I wrote zero of them down, so now you have to read my random jabberings just because I'm lazy.
So today was really lovely out. Well, not really. It was amazingly hot out. I couldn't go upstairs just because it was like stepping next to a massive bonfire. Nuts. But then, a storm swept through our area this evening. According to the radar, it was all red stuff coming our way. Apparently red stuff consists of dark clouds, a little thunder and lightning, and some sprinkly raindrops (sprinkly is a word). So I don't know what that it about, but when I see red, I'm expecting some real lights out, candles, terrified dog storm, not something a baby would sleep through.
My mom made some delicious Mexican glop (it has no name, and therefore I attempted to designate one to it). I put Fritos on it. I like Fritos.
So, in exactly twenty days I will be going to Creation Fest. This is an awesomatic music festival that goes on for four days. I went last year with my mom and a friend, and it was probably the most awesome thing I've ever done in my life. I met TobyMac (we fist-pounded), did the Thriller dance with hundreds of other people, and nearly melted my finger off with candle wax. It was amazing, for lack of a better word.
So this year I'm going with my mom, my sister, and a different friend. It's going to be awesome. No lie. But thinking about Creation got me thinking about the vendors. And thinking about the vendors made me think about some of the fantastic organizations that were there. So, because I really believe in these organizations, some of them I even got to meet some of the main people involved, and just because I want to get the word out about them, I'm gonna give you a list of some of my favorites.

Project AK-47
Did you know that there are over a million children soldiers in the world? In many foreign countries, children are taken from their homes and forced to become soldiers. Instead of going to school, they're trained to kill people. Many of them have watched friends and family die.
And many of them are under the age of ten.
This past year at Creation Fest, we got to meet a cool guy who was really passionate about this. These guys sell lots of different merchandise to gain funds to rescue child soldiers. But one of their coolest items are the dog tags they sell. Each dog tag represents a child soldier. It has the name, gender, age, and country of a child, and the proceeds help rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate these children. My friend got a dog tag last year, and I'm really mad I didn't too. But I plan on it this year. What was a huge blessing what that last year at Creation Fest, Project AK-47 sold out of dog tags. Amazing!

To Write Love On Her Arms
This began as a way for friends to tell a story of a friend who was going through issues associated with depression (suicide, cutting). It started off as a small thing, but now, many people, including non-Christians, are very aware of this organization and very motivated to help.
Their site lists different ways you can help and contribute to their cause.
(Another awesome organization similar to this one is My Broken Palace. At Creation Fest, they had a huge wall covered with people's writings. Prayers for others, for themselves, just a cry to God. Everything was on that wall. It was awesome.)

 Cupcakes for Life
What's worse than being in third grade and having no one celebrate your birthday?
Not being allowed to be born!
October 9th is National Pro-life Cupcake Day. These guys are trying to get the word out about abortion in a unique way - cupcakes! On this one day, they ask people to make cupcakes and use them to remember the children who weren't able to have a birthday this year because they were aborted. This is an awesome time to get the word out about abortions and show people that these children are really children - not just some under-formed bit of cells. So check these guys out! Cupcakes for life - because not every child is allowed to have a birthday.

A21 Campaign
Fact: Human trafficking is the second largest global organized crime in the world.
Fact: There are 1.39 million victims of commercial sexual servitude in the world, right now.
Fact: Over 25% of sex trafficked victims are from Southern and Eastern Europe.
Fact: Only 1-2 percent of victims are rescued and only 1 in 100,000 Europeans involved in trafficking are convicted.
These are some really sad but true statistics about the world we live in. I recently discovered this group after reading an article in SUSIE magazine's July issue on a girl who was rescued from sex trafficking by this organization. It was really touching and I don't think we realize how much bad stuff goes on in our world. And it need to be stopped.
I saw on their site that they're selling $5 bracelets wristbands to help get the word out about human trafficking. I think I'm gonna go get one!
So I hope at least one, if not all of these organizations touched your heart like they touched mine. Please find some way to get involved in one or all of these groups!
Cheers ♥
