You Will Thirst No More

So yesterday (or whenever it was. The days are starting to blend together..) I started discussing modesty. This seems to be a really difficult topic, at least for me. I've been on the SUSIE forums and there have been several discussion on modesty. Some girls have standards close to mine (which are what I think of as normal modesty standards), some very extreme standards and they don't wear anything slightly revealing, and there are other girls who have much lower standards. So it's really been bothering me, especially when I feel my standards are right and some other girl's standards are wrong just because that's how I feel. I was also wishing that different people who have discussed modesty would just give us a list of modest clothing and immodest clothing and be done with it. Of course they never do, but now I'm starting to see why. I guess you can't give a big list of do's or dont's when it comes to what you wear. The Bible doesn't just say "Ok don't wear bikinis, and you're fine," or "You can only wear turtlenecks and long skirts." Anyway just my two cents as I'm trying to figure all this out...
I've decided to go back through the "Secret Keeper Devos" that I have to help me deal with this. I trust the woman who wrote this book to have a Biblical aspect to this issue. So today I had to read Isaiah 55 (you can go read it if you like :). This passage begins with "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters..." (NIV) This passage beckons everyone to come and have their thirst quenched. I say everyone because I believe all of us as humans have a thirst in our soul that can only be filled by the waters that come from Him who gave us that desire. Anyway, the devotional went on to talk about wilted spirits, and how the author seems to find many girls who are struggling with modesty seem to have just that - a wilted spirit. I, for one, know how that wilted spirit feels. You just feel sort of lifeless, like something's missing. You have a thirst that doesn't seem like it can be quenched, but you try. You try to fill it up with what you think will fill you up. We can do that by dressing immodestly and trying to attract the wrong attention. That's one reason why it's so important to stay in God's Word and to be praying. It's so easy to fall prey to sin when we're not having that deep, satisfying drink at God's fountain every day. And it's not just immodesty we can fall into - it's any and every sin out there.
So my little tidbit for today is to stay in God's Word! Be reading it constantly, praying to Him to reveal more to you and to fill the thirst in your soul. We need to start going deep, past the surface, to find what lies beneath.
As a side note, I'm sending in my registration for SUSIE Magazine's 2nd Annual 30-Day Challenge today!!! I'm so psyched! I can't wait to get started and "go deep"! (hehe) Also I have to make no-bake cookies today since it's my friend Dana's birthday!
Cheers.
